Demographics of Plano Texas

According to the 2010 census, the city’s population was 269,776.  Overall, this qualifies Plano TX as the ninth most populous city in Texas and the 70th most populous city in the United States.  The population density is 3,102.4 people per square mile.  The racial makeup of the city is as follows:

  • White 66.9%
  • Asian 16.9%
  • Black 7.6%
  • Native American 0.36%
  • Pacific Islander 0.1%
  • Other 3.86%
  • From two or more races: 3.0%
  • (Hispanic / Latino of any race: 14.7%.  Non Hispanic Whites: 58.4%)

Plano Texas is one of the wealthiest cities in the US.  CNN Money rated it as THE wealthiest city.  The US Census Bureau in 2008 declared Plano as the wealthiest city based on median household income and a population over 250,000.  The results were based on 2007 data that showed the median income for a household was $84,492.  The median income for a family was $101,616.  The poverty rate was only 6.3%.

64.3% of the over 80,000 families are made up of married couples.  20.2% of all households were made up of individuals.  7.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 25.1% were non-families. The average household size was 2.73, and the average family size was 3.18.
